The QA Engineer validates software functionality against approved requirements and acceptance criteria, develops and maintains automated test suites, performs accessibility and end-to-end testing, manages defects, and provides clear test results and quality metrics to project stakeholders.
The QA Engineer works closely with Business Analysts, Developers, Project/Program Managers, and other stakeholders to identify defects, clarify requirements, validate fixes, maintain test traceability, and support delivery of high-quality software that meets functional, technical, accessibility, and regulatory requirements.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Functional Testing
  • Develop and maintain manual test cases based on approved requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional specifications.
  • Execute functional testing for application features, enhancements, change requests, and defect fixes.
  • Validate acceptance criteria against functionality deployed to designated test environments.
  • Document test results, including pass/fail status, defects, and supporting evidence.
  • Prepare test reports and validation documentation for project stakeholders and customer review.
  • Coordinate with Business Analysts and Developers to identify and resolve ambiguous, incomplete, or non-testable requirements.
  • Maintain traceability between requirements, acceptance criteria, test cases, defects, and test results.

Automated Testing
  • Develop, maintain, and execute automated end-to-end (E2E) test suites using Cypress or comparable automation frameworks.
  • Integrate automated testing into the application's regression testing strategy.
  • Execute automated regression testing and document failures against applicable requirements and functional areas.
  • Develop automated test specifications aligned to requirements, user stories, or work item IDs for traceability.
  • Maintain automated test repositories and update test suites following approved requirement changes, defect fixes, and application enhancements.
  • Identify opportunities to increase automated test coverage and improve testing efficiency.

Accessibility Testing
  • Perform accessibility testing for new and modified user-interface functionality.
  • Evaluate applications against Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements, as applicable to the project.
  • Conduct accessibility testing using keyboard-only navigation, screen readers, and automated accessibility tools such as axe and Lighthouse.
  • Document accessibility defects with appropriate severity, reproduction information, and supporting evidence.
  • Coordinate with Developers and Business Analysts to validate accessibility remediation.
  • Maintain accessibility testing documentation and provide status information to project stakeholders.

Defect Management and Work Item Tracking
  • Create, update, and track defect work items using Azure DevOps or comparable Agile project management tools.
  • Document complete reproduction steps, expected results, actual results, environment information, severity, and supporting evidence.
  • Participate in defect triage with Project/Program Managers, Business Analysts, Developers, and other stakeholders.
  • Track defects through resolution, regression testing, and closure.
  • Perform regression testing on resolved defects to verify corrective actions and identify potential impacts to existing functionality.
  • Reopen defects when fixes do not satisfy requirements or introduce additional issues.
  • Maintain QA metrics, including open, closed, reopened, and outstanding defects, for project reporting.

Non-Functional Testing
  • Support performance, load, stress, and other non-functional testing activities as assigned.
  • Execute defined non-functional test scenarios under expected and peak usage conditions.
  • Document test results and identify degradation in response time, throughput, stability, or resource utilization.
  • Support development and maintenance of non-functional test plans and scenarios as application scope evolves.

End-to-End and Integration Testing
  • Conduct end-to-end and integration testing across application components and user workflows.
  • Validate data flows between integrated systems, applications, services, and external interfaces.
  • Verify that data entered or modified through one application workflow is accurately reflected in applicable downstream functionality.
  • Develop and maintain E2E test suites and supporting test artifacts.
  • Maintain traceability between E2E test coverage and applicable requirements and work items.
  • Coordinate with Developers and Business Analysts to investigate integration defects and validate corrective actions.

Agile / Sprint Participation
  • Participate in sprint planning and backlog refinement to evaluate work items for testability.
  • Identify missing, ambiguous, incomplete, or non-testable acceptance criteria.
  • Participate in daily standups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies.
  • Provide QA status, testing progress, defects, risks, dependencies, and blockers.
  • Contribute QA metrics and testing results to sprint summaries, project status reports, and quality reviews.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members to support sprint completion and release readiness.
